Python Geospatial Data and Mapping: Parts 1-2

February 15, 2023, 10:00am
Geospatial data are an important component of data visualization and analysis in the social sciences, humanities, and elsewhere. The Python programming language is a great platform for exploring these data and integrating them into your research.

GIS & Mapping Community of Practice Meetup (January 2024)

January 24, 2024, 11:00am
This month's "welcome back" meetup & social is hosted by the D-Lab! We'll meet in the D-Lab Collaboratory and learn about the D-Lab's services, trainings, and spaces. Plus, of course, opportunities to chat with other folks on campus about what they're doing with GIS & mapping.

Python Introduction to Machine Learning: Parts 1-2

February 23, 2022, 10:00am
This workshop introduces students to scikit-learn, the popular machine learning library in Python, as well as the auto-ML library built on top of scikit-learn, TPOT. The focus will be on scikit-learn syntax and available tools to apply machine learning algorithms to datasets. No theory instruction will be provided.

Python Text Analysis: Topic Modeling

March 29, 2023, 2:00pm
In this part, we study unsupervised learning of text data. This is a stand alone work that builds from the two-part text analysis series.

Python Introduction to Machine Learning: Parts 1-2

September 27, 2021, 2:00pm
This workshop introduces students to scikit-learn, the popular machine learning library in Python, as well as the auto-ML library built on top of scikit-learn, TPOT. The focus will be on scikit-learn syntax and available tools to apply machine learning algorithms to datasets. No theory instruction will be provided.

Python Deep Learning: Parts 1-2

October 17, 2022, 2:00pm
The goal of this workshop is to build intuition for deep learning by building, training, and testing models in Python. Rather than a theory-centered approach, we will evaluate deep learning models through empirical results.

R Geospatial Fundamentals: Parts 1-3

March 11, 2024, 9:00am
Geospatial data are an important component of data visualization and analysis in the social sciences, humanities, and elsewhere. The R programming language is a great platform for exploring these data and integrating them into your research. This workshop focuses on fundamental operations for reading, writing, manipulating and mapping vector data, which encodes location as points, lines and polygons.

Python Visualization (5pm-8pm)

March 31, 2022, 5:00pm
For this workshop, we'll provide an introduction to visualization with Python. We'll cover visualization theory and plotting with Matplotlib and Seaborn, working through examples in a Jupyter notebook.

Python Deep Learning: Parts 1-2

June 12, 2023, 2:00pm
The goal of this workshop is to build intuition for deep learning by building, training, and testing models in Python. Rather than a theory-centered approach, we will evaluate deep learning models through empirical results.

Geospatial Fundamentals with QGIS: Queries & Joins

October 1, 2021, 10:00am
This workshop will introduce attribute and spatial queries and joins in QGIS. Basic knowledge of QGIS is assumed.
