Barrows 356B: D-Lab Convening Room

Unfortunately, due to a family loss, Prof. Ozer is unable to be present at this event. Catherine Duarte and Brian Villa, her research team members and planned co-presenters, will incorporate a previously recorded lecture by Prof. Ozer and otherwise deliver the presentation as planned. We look forward to your attendance at this event. To Prof. Ozer and her family, we offer our condolences.

Dr. Emily Ozer, Professor of Community Health Sciences at the UC Berkeley School of Public Health, will kick-off this workshop with an introduction to community-based participatory research (CBPR), including a focus on youth participatory action research (YPAR), a form of CBPR in which youth are trained to be active researchers engaged in data-based inquiry to improve a problem that they want to change. Representatives of her research team, who have studied and engaged in YPAR approaches across Bay Area schools and community-based organizations for the past 15 years, will then lead attendees in an interactive workshop focused on the implementation of participatory approaches with opportunities to think about application to their own fields and interests. Laptops are recommended if participants want to follow along with presentation components around the yparhub. The documents available below are recommended reading/resources for attendees to review in advance.
