Janiya Peters is a third-year PhD student in the School of Information who employs qualitative and New Media methods to explore criticisms and counter-measures against the use of deep learning models in online creative communities. She has completed the Berkeley D-Lab Data Science for Social Justice workshop. She is an AI Policy Hub Fellow and is working with Stanford University's Institute for Human-Centered Artificial Intelligence on algorithmic dark patterns. She employs MAXQDA, heuristic analysis and textual analysis to explore her research areas. Her hobbies include: sticker making, sewing, and learning hand and traditional illustration!
