D-Lab Data Science & AI Fellowship

Overview

Data Science & AI (DSAI) Fellows are an integral part of the D-Lab community. They largely support the D-Lab’s instruction program, while additionally bolstering the D-Lab’s interdisciplinary research mission by delivering talks and writing blog posts.

The DSAI Fellowship is intended for Berkeley students who wish to provide sizable and wide-ranging contributions to the D-Lab community. Those interested in the fellowship are expected to have technical competency in data-driven tasks (whether qualitative or quantitative), and a strong interest in interdisciplinary applications of data science & AI.

About the Fellowship

This yearlong fellowship is designed for students with strong technical skills who are eager to lead workshops, share their research, and support the D-Lab’s collaborative community. Fellows are expected to commit to two consecutive semesters, contributing regularly to instruction, events, and community activities. Fellows are also expected to have an in-person presence on campus, in order to be able to participate in in-person activities.

What Fellows Do

As a DSAI Fellow, you will:

  • Teach workshops on data science and AI tools and methods
  • Present your work to your cohort through Fellows Talks
  • Write blog posts to communicate your science, discuss your opinions, or tell personal stories
  • Participate in a supportive cohort, attending community meetings and peer events

You’ll also have the opportunity to engage in D-Lab projects, develop curriculum, and contribute to consulting activities.

Fellows can expect to dedicate approximately 80 hours each semester (~5 hours/week) to Fellowship activities.
