This introductory workshop covers basics of GitHub using GitHub Desktop, a GUI Git client. This workshop is designed for people with no previous experience with Git or GitHub. We will cover key concepts and workflows, including version control, repository creation, branching, merging, and collaboration.

Integrative Biology
I am a PhD candidate in the department of Integrative Biology. My research interest is at the intersection of biomechanics, entomology, and physiology. Currently I am studying how beetles use their shield-like forewings called elytra for flight, thermoregulation, and protection. Prior to UC Berkeley, I worked as a research assistant at Korea Institute of Ocean Science and Technology (KIOST), studying algae phylogenetics. I received my B.A. in Biology and Mathematics from Swarthmore College.

I am a PhD Candidate in City and Regional Planning. My research focuses on the use of large administrative datasets to study residential mobility, neighborhood change, and housing access. I received a Master in Geography from the University of Washington and a Bachelor's in Economics and Geography from Macalester College. Stephanie Andrews is currently studying data science in the MIDS program, having previously majored in Social Welfare as an undergraduate at Cal. After graduating, she worked as an advocate for survivors of gender-based violence, as a public policy analyst focusing on anti-trafficking initiatives, and as a software engineer for progressive and social impact organizations. She is now conducting research with the Human Rights Center's Investigations Lab, using OSINT and data science methods to investigate human rights violations.
I am a fourth-year PhD student in Linguistics, with a focus in sociophonetics and phonology. In my research, I'm interested in how understudied speech communities (Andalusians, southern Spain; Lobi and Tonko Limba, West Africa) and often-relegated aspects of social identity (sexuality, gender normativity) can inform new approaches to theory and methodology and how we conceptualize the interfaces between linguistic subfields.
