Janiya Peters is a third-year PhD student in the School of Information who employs qualitative and New Media methods to explore criticisms and counter-measures against the use of deep learning models in online creative communities. She has completed the Berkeley D-Lab Data Science for Social Justice workshop. She is an AI Policy Hub Fellow and is working with Stanford University's Institute for Human-Centered Artificial Intelligence on algorithmic dark patterns. I am a PhD Candidate in City and Regional Planning at UC Berkeley. Prior to pursuing my PhD, I worked as a transportation planner in the San Francisco Bay Area. I received my Master of City Planning with a Certificate in GIS and Spatial Analysis from Stuart Weitzman School of Design, University of Pennsylvania, and a B.A. in Urban Studies and Economics from the University of Hong Kong.
